He has picked up quite a bit of buzz in recent months thanks to singles like 'Addict', 'Rainbow' and new song 'Black Crow', and Irish audiences will get to see what all the fuss is about for themselves when Louis Baker plays his first Dublin gig at the East Side Tavern next month (June 6th).

Ahead of the New Zealand singer-songwriter's Irish debut, we caught up with him to get the lowdown on his influences and inspirations by answering The Big Questionnaire.

What's the music that you listened to growing up, that you still listen to today?
D’Angelo, Al Green, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Michael Jackson.

When did you first realise you wanted a career in music?
After hearing and learning the solos in Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Voodoo Chile - Slight Return’.

In three words, describe the minute before you walk on stage.
Nervously excited elation.

How do you wind down after a gig?
That depends on many factors, i.e.: What life holds for you the next day. Food is always involved.

What’s the one song you wish you’d written or recorded first?
Yesterday. Apparently it came to Paul in a dream, and that has always fascinated me.

What song of yours are you most proud of?
Not sure. Maybe Rainbow. One time someone I didn’t know messaged my FB page to say it saved them from committing suicide. If that is what my music can do, then it is an honour to keep making it.

What’s your favourite venue to perform in?
San Fran in Wellington is pretty special.

Your best and worst gig so far?
Best: Sziget Festival – Budapest. Worst: One when I was just starting out at a café in Wellington. Terrible time. Just wanted it to be over. The main thing was, I learnt from it.

Whose career do you envy, and why?
Leon Bridges – I love what he does. He has his integrity firmly in step, but has a huge reach. That’s the dream. To make the music that you love, that you create, but have a huge exposure and enough resources to tour with an incredible band, production, etc.

Vinyl or digital downloads?
Both. Everyone consumes in different ways. Personally, I will always love vinyl more though.

Give your thoughts on Spotify in three words.
Myriad listening capability.

You can only have three albums on your phone/in your house at any one time - what three would you pick for today?
UMOMulti Love, MJOff The Wall, SolangeA Seat At The Table.

Name one piece of music memorabilia that you wish you owned.
Hendrix’s Strat from Woodstock.

Name one record, one book and one film that everyone should hear / read / see.
Where Will We Go Pt.1 – Nick Hakim, 1984 – George Orwell, The Godfather – Francis Ford Coppola.

Pick the director and lead actor(s) for a biopic about your life.
Dead or alive? DiCaprio. Christopher Nolan.

You’re ordering take-away, what do you get?
Pomodoro pizza.

You’ve been given €100,000 to spend, but only 1 hour to spend it. What do you buy?
Neve Console.

Describe your perfect day off.
Netflix and chill with my girl.

Tell us, in one sentence, why we should come to your gig.
“If you want something you have never had, you must do something you have never done.”  - Thomas Jefferson
