It seems that musicians of a certain age are all reaching for the quill and parchment to pen their life stories.
Following on from announcements that Bruce Springsteen, Phil Collins and Roger Waters will all publish their autobiographies this year, Prince will do the same in 2017.
The memoir has the working title of 'The Beautiful Ones' and Prince made the announcement during a gig in New York at the weekend. It will be published by Random House, who the musician says made him 'an offer [he] couldn't refuse'.
He's working on it with writer/editor Dan Piepenbring and it's expected to be published in autumn 2017.
"We're starting right at the beginning - my first memory - and hopefully we can move all the way to the Super Bowl," he said.
Chris Jackson, executive editor at Random House, said: "Millions of words have been written about Prince - books and articles, essays and criticism - but we're thrilled to be publishing Prince's powerful reflections on his own life in his own incandescently vivid, witty and poetic voice."
