Next month will see a jam-packed programme of events coming to the National Opera House with everything from Edinburgh Fringe Festival favourite Tom Crean: Antarctic Explorer to the exciting opening night of Opera Theatre Company’s Rigoletto.

But before May kicks off, American and Bluegrass powerhouse, We Banjo 3, returns to Wexford for their biggest show yet at the National Opera House. The band just finished touring with Mumford and Sons, and have just launched out their new album, The Fox.

May begins with Irish actor Aidan Dooley performing his internationally-acclaimed one man show, Tom Crean: Antarctic Explorer on May 1st & 2nd. This story of the intrepid Antarctic explorer and one of Ireland’s unsung heroes, is brought to life in a dramatic and humorous performance. The April Verch Band then takes the lead on May 8th with a concert of high octane North American Bluegrass and Roots music.

Opera Theatre Company’s opening night of Verdi’s Rigoletto takes place on May 15th at the National Opera House. This epic tale of passion, revenge and betrayal has a powerful cast and an award-winning production team behind it.

Finally, on May 16th, SMOKIE returns to the National Opera House for what is sure to be another sell-out performance. Presented by South East Radio, their Irish Collection show will feature every single hit record SMOKIE ever had and will also give you a sample of some of their current albums, which have been big chart hits for them across Europe.

Booking is now also open for the 2015 Wexford Festival Opera! The 64th Festival includes main stage opera productions Koanga by Frederick Delius, Guglielmo Ratcliff by Pietro Mascagni, and Le Pré aux clercs by Ferdinand Hérold. And if you like the sound of those, check out the full festival listing, or have a look at the festival trailer. Find out more at wexfordopera.com, and check out this year's festival trailer.
