Jackie Joyce is not short of self-confidence. As well as adopting the alter ego Helicopter Girl, the Dundee lass with a Ghanaian heritage has subtitled her debut album, '11 tales of love, alienation, lust and revenge'. Sadly, beside these trappings the actual music feels downright ordinary. She whispers her vitriolic tales of obsession against a backdrop of ambient soul but the lyrics are clumsy and every single track has the same maddeningly pedestrian tempo. Ultimately there is an air of cold contrivance about this album which makes its pretensions to greatness difficult to stomach.
