It's hard to believe now, but for one brief shining moment Cast were at the very centre of the pop zeitgeist. Back in the summer of 1995 their punchy brand of Liverpudlian beat music seemed to perfectly capture the spirit of Britpop. Since then, however, fashion has moved on and it's been one long slide into irrelevance for John Power and co. They acknowledge this themselves on their fourth album by adding flutes, echo effects and even hip-hop samples to their staple jangly guitar sound. Sadly it all falls rather flat and the neo-hippie lyrics don't stand up to repeated listening. To put it politely, an uninspired album.
