The significant talents of Stevie Wonder, Dave Grohl, Pharrell Williams, Chris Martin, Florence Welch (and lots more!) have combined to launch the new BBC Music season with a cover of the Beach Boys' classic hit.

All of the BBC's television, radio and online networks simultaneously debuted a massive collaboration of talent performing the Beach Boys' legendary song 'God Only Knows' yesterday evening to announce the arrival of the new BBC Music season.

It's more than 17 years after a similar project gave us an unforgettable version of Lou Reed's 'Perfect Day', this time around it's Brian Wilson's song which gets the high profile makeover.

Wilson himself was involved in the song's recording alongside a list of acts almost too long to name but we'll endeavour to mention a few more: Elton John, One Direction, Kylie Minogue, Sam Smith, Chrissie Hynde, Emeli Sandé, Jools Holland....this could go on for a while.

The BBC described their new music season as: "an ambitious wave of new programmes, innovative partnerships and ground-breaking music initiatives that amount to the BBC's strongest commitment to music in 30 years."

Brian Wilson also commented, saying: "I just feel so incredibly humbled that the BBC would choose 'God Only Knows' to promote their new music initiative. All of the artists did such a beautiful job I can't thank them enough. I'm just honoured that 'God Only Knows' was chosen. [It] is a very special song. An extremely spiritual song and one of the best I've ever written."

So what do you think, does this eclipse the version of 'Perfect Day' from all those years ago? Let us know in the comments!
