'Derek' is a British sitcom written by, directed by and starring Ricky Gervais as the titular character - a retirement-home worker who adores animals, Rolf Harris, TV and autograph-hunting. At the home, he works alongside his landlord, Dougie (Karl Pilkington). It started life as a one-off on Channel 4 in 2012. It returned as a series in January 2013. In the opening edition of the series, the retirement home faces closure, so manager Hannah (Kerry Godliman) and the staff work together to raise the funds needed to keep it open, and an outburst from Dougie helps put smiles back on the residents' faces.
