The creators behind HBO’s Westworld claimed yesterday that they were doing something new and risky to fight online spoiler culture – they were going to give away all the big secrets from the series’ upcoming second season before it even debuts.

The announcement was made by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy during a Reddit AMA. They said that the spoilers would be revealed through a video which fans can choose to either watch or not watch. The idea will act as a kind of social experiment, as those who have seen the video can either spoil it for others or keep the secrets safe.

It would also have fans consider the difference between ‘theories’ and ‘spoilers’ since the nature of the show often blurs the lines between the two.

The creators wrote: “We’re going to post a video that lays out the plot (and twists and turns) of season 2. Everything. The whole sordid thing. Up front."

After a vote posited to fans was in favour of unveiling said video, the pair posted it online, saying: "All right guys. We left this in your hands. Some may feel this is a drastic step, but I, for one, love and trust this community."

While it begins legitimately enough, it all changes about a minute and a half in.

In fairness, it's all quite meta and damn funny.
