As you may or may not have noticed over the past few days, I have been conspicuously absent from my beloved TV section. Well, that's because the lovely folks at Netflix flew me to Toronto, Canada (yes, I am serious) to catch up with Famke Janssen, Dougray Scott and the (sickeningly beautiful) talented cast of the brand new original series, Hemlock Grove.
If you haven't heard about the show, which is based on Brian McGreevy's novel of the same name, then let us fill you in. Y'see, there's been a brutal murder in a small Pennsylvania town by the name of, you guessed it, Hemlock Grove, and nobody is quite sure what happened. Brooke Bluebell's body is found near the old Godfrey steel mill, and the mob soon start to spread rumours linking townsfolk to the killing. As whispers whirl around the community, two of the suspects decide to find the killer themselves.
Peter Rumancek's a 17-year-old Gypsy, who everyone thinks is a werewolf, while young Roman Godfrey is the heir to a rather substantial estate. Oh, and he has a bit of a taste for blood too: Think Edward Cullen, minus the glitter and/or Could either of them be behind the murder and hoping to cover their tracks? In Hemlock Grove, nothing's ever quite what it seems. Will the boys find a monster in the town where everyone's got a secret to hide?
Anyway, as I was saying, last weekend I was lucky enough to pop over to Toronto (as you do) and sit down for a chat with the cast. First up were Landon Liboiron and Freya Tingley, a charming pair who play werewolf/gypsy Peter, and his rather curious new neighbour Christina. Landon told us he'd love to do an Irish film, but has one or two reservations about the accent, and you can see our interview right here, or catch the ridiculously freaky werewolf transformation we got chatting about right here. If you loved Taylor Lautner's Jacob Black, prepare to be scarred for life.
Next up were the rather wonderful Famke Janssen and Dougray Scott. Enigma and X-Men are quite possibly two of my favourite films ever, and, as I have admitted before, I really did believe I was a miniature Jean Grey aged just 3-years-old. Nothing like a self-professed telekinetic toddler to spice up a household... Famke and Dougray told me what it was like to work together, and I asked her how the Scotsman compared to our Pierce Brosnan and Liam Neeson... Find out what she had to say above! *points upwards*
And finally, I caught up with Bill Skarsgard (son of Stellan and brother of Alexander) and Penelope Mitchell, to find out what they made of the show when they first read the script. Needless to say, Hemlock Grove is no average TV show, and as Bill himself admits, it's a rather intense tale.
