Before you ring in the New Year tonight, you should tune into The Imelda May Show which, along with a shed load of musical talent, will feature a powerful performance from spoken word poet Stephen James Smith.

He reads an extract from his poem 'My Ireland' which is a stirring reflection on what it means to be Irish these days.

Watch the performance below, where Stephen is accompanied by Niamh Dunne from Beoga.

Other guests on The Imelda May New Year’s Eve Special tonight include The Corrs, Finbar Furey, The Strypes, Gavin James and The Jerry Fish Electric Sideshow, alongside an audience of Irish stars.

Catch it all tonight on RTÉ One, at 10.20pm.
