The kids that made you want to learn karate back in the day are all grown up and are now embracing the eighties nostalgia by reuniting for a new Karate Kid TV series.

It sees Ralph Macchio reprising his iconic role as Daniel LaRusso while William Zabka is returning as his adversary, Johnny Lawrence.

Called Cobra Kai, the series is set 30 years after the original 1984 movie and will see rivals Danny and Johnny come head to head once more when a down-on-his-luck Johnny re-opens the Cobra Kai dojo. This put him at odds with Daniel who is still all peace and love thanks to the teachings of mentor Mr Miyagi – previously played by the late Pat Morita.

The sequel series will star Xolo Maridueña (Parenthood), Mary Mouser (Freakish), Tanner Buchanan (Designated Survivor) and Courtney Henggeler (Mom), as well as guest star Ed Asner.

Henggeler stars as Daniel's wife and business partner Amanda, while Mouser plays Samantha - Daniel and Amanda's daughter. Buchanan takes on the role of Johnny's street-smart son Robby Keene, with Asner guest starring as Johnny's stepfather Sid Weinberg.

Miguel Diaz plays Maridueña, a school kid struggling with bullies until he's taken under the wing of a Cobra Kai karate master. (Sounds familiar.)

The series, which will be shown on YouTube Red, will consist of 10 half-hour episodes, while it's written by Hot Tub Time Machine's John Heald and Harold and Kumar's Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg.

They will also executive produce alongside Macchio and Zabka, while Hurwitz and Schlossberg will direct some of the series too. Susan Ekins, Will Smith, James Lassiter, and Caleeb Pinkett will executive produce.
