Stephen Colbert has dealt with his fair share of tough interviews and fiery guests, but last night he tackled someone...or something that was a little bit outside of his normal realm.

It's probably fair to say that it was outside anyone's normal realm, as his special guest for the big interview was none other than the man...eh sorry, dragon of the moment, Smaug, who's on a grueling publicity trail for the new movie The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.

Smaug was kind enough not to eat Stephen, seeing as he'd already snacked on the women from The View, and he was in good form despite claiming that Conservatives and dragons get overlooked for all the good roles in Hollywood.

Colbert himself is no stranger to Smaug, having had a very brief cameo in The Desolation of Smaug, and his family were also in on the fun as extras in the scenes in Lake-town, so the two are sort of old friends and have a decent rapport going throughout the interview. We have to say though, we never thought we'd see Smaug say "Keepin' it real, yo".
