If you've your hopes set on a third 'Sex and the City' film, it may be time to find some new ones because it doesn't look like it's happening anytime soon.

Talking to Ellen on today's show, Parker said that right now she doesn't know if 'Sex and the City 3' will happen but if it does, whether or not the character of Samantha is involved is up in the air (which we learned courtesy of some expert dodging on Parker's part).

Kim Cattrall previously said that she "played it past the finish line and then some" in her role of Samantha, adding "I loved it and another actress should play it  Maybe they could make it an African-American Samantha Jones or a Hispanic Samantha Jones, or bring in another character."

After being asked if she could still do the movie without her, Parker said "There's a period of grief, a mourning process" before joking that Ellen could play Samantha.

And when pressed as to whether or not there will be a third film, Parker dodged the question by joking that there'll be a 'Sex and the City 4' first before clarifying that she just doesn't know because "reality is a brutal companion".

"Who knows," she added. "Right now, I don't know."
