There he was, standing alongside Caroline Flack and in between the two contestants about to hear their fate - Monica Michael and Anton Stephans. Suddenly, Murs announced that Monica was going home, before Caroline interjected with a "No Olly, she's not." This sent Murs into a flap, with him mumbling: "Sorry. I apologise for that. Sorry Monica. I do apologise."
Caroline then went on with the official announcement: "The act who received the fewest votes from the public and who will be leaving the competition tonight is... it's Monica Michael." So, Monica was going home... Confused? It's OK, we are too at the best of times. It seems Olly forgot about the public vote when it comes to all things "DEADLOCK" and was just going on the fact that three of the judges had decided to send her home.
Murs has since taken to Twiter to apologise for his "f*ck up", saying...
I apologise to everyone tonight I made a massive f%#k up at the end. It was so tense!! I'm still learning & hope that never happens again!

Co-host Caroline added...

And just to put things into context, former X Factor host Dermot O'Leary had this to say...

Didn't see the show tonight, but live TV is a tricky old beast at times. After this weekend... perhaps some sense of context should prevail.
