We've been eagerly counting down the months, weeks and now, at long last, X-Files is so close we can almost taste it.

The six-episode revival lands on US screens on January 24th, although there's been no word yet if RTE or TV3 has secured the broadcasting rights for it. Set in the present day, the FBI has reopened the X-Files and, from what we understand, reinstates Mulder as an FBI agent and reteams him with Scully.

The six-part series will run until the end of February, with the rumours suggesting that it could lead to the series coming back in a more permanent basis. Here's hoping, anyway. As for returning cast, as well as Duchovny and Anderson, Mitch Pileggi returns as Assistant Director Skinner, the Lone Gunmen are also due to make a comeback as is the infamous Smoking Man from the original series.

In the meantime, here's a new trailer that catches everyone up and gives a pretty good idea of where the show's heading. Keep an eye out for Community / The Soup's Joel McHale as Tad O'Malley, an Internet blogger / journalist who brings Mulder out of hiding.
