SNL's quality levels do seem to rise and fall throughout the years.

We'll freely admit that the cast they've got on at the minute aren't really doing them any favours, but there are some glimmers of brilliance every now and then. Case in point being this particularly brilliant sketch from the season finale.

Fred Armisen, who himself was a former castmember / writer, turned up to host and we've got to guess that he had a hand in writing this sketch because it's one of the best sketches on the show in years.

Really, we're not exaggerating. Take a look.

No wonder Dead Poets' Society has such a cherised place in people's hearts. That heart-rending moment at the end when everyone stands up and says "Oh Captain, My Captain."

Beautiful. A beautiful, beautiful scene. That wasn't anything like that.
