Netflix dropped their original series House of Cards online yesterday morning. Now the on demand service says viewers can watch the first episode of the political drama, which stars Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey, Golden Globe nominee Robin Wright, and Kate Mara, for free throughout the month of February.

The full 13-episodes of the drama series' first season are available to Netflix members in North America, the UK, Ireland, Latin America and Scandinavia, but the special deal means even those without a Netflix subscription can still catch the first episode, absolutely free of charge. Sound as a pound!

From director David Fincher (The Social Network), award-winning playwright and Academy Award nominated screenwriter Beau Willimon (The Ides of March) and Academy Award winner Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, Munich), House of Cards is based on the BBC miniseries (televised in 1990, starring Ian Richardson) of the same name. This political drama slithers beneath the curtain and through the back halls of greed, sex, love and corruption in modern Washington D.C.

The series orbits Francis Underwood (Spacey), the House Majority Whip. Underwood is the politician's politician - masterful, beguiling, charismatic, ruthless, and many other superlatives. He and his equally ambitious wife Claire (Wright) stop at nothing to ensure their ascendancy.

The drama's second season is due to begin production in spring 2013. Sure y'never know, it may fill the gap left behind by The West Wing.
