Anyone who's watched Aziz Ansari's excellent new Netflix series Master of None will know that diversity in television is something that the actor is very passionate about.

The actor recently wrote an article in The New York Times about the time he confronted Fisher Stevens, the white actor who put on brownface to play an Indian man in Short Circuit 2. So it shouldn't have come as much of a surprise to Colbert when Ansari brought up the subject when he appeared on The Late Show last night.

After Colbert notes they’re both from South Carolina, Aziz quips, “Stephen’s the first late-night host from South Carolina, and the bajillionth white guy.” Ansari then want on to call out CBS, who produce The Late Show for their lack of diversity.Colbert was slightly flustered by the comments but he quickly got back in the swing of things.

When a minor typo on his cue cards prompted Ansari to joke "Oh, somebody's gonna get fired!", without missing a beat, Colbert shot back with "God I hope it's a white guy."
