It may not be known for its historical accuracy, but if it's an axe-wielding gore-fest you're after, no doubt you've already been glued to Ragnar Lothbrok's plunderings, and will be thrilled to learn Vikings is due to run until at least 2017.

Speaking of JRM's impending involvement, a History spokesperson said: "’Vikings’ has raided the hearts of audiences and we are thrilled that Jonathan Rhys Myers will become a bigger part of the History family after his incredible performance in our upcoming production of ‘Roots.’”

According to Uproxx: "His casting here is a reunion with the show’s producer Michael Hirst, who also led the team on The Tudors." True, it's JRM in yet another period drama, but who are we to complain?

The History production, which is filmed in Ireland, first mad it's debut on the History channel back ion 2013. The series kicked off filming July 2012 at Ashford Studios, with longship scenes shot at Luggala, and the Poulaphouca Reservoir, in the Wicklow Mountains.

Hopefully there'll be another open casting call  in Templebar for those who want to put their beards to good use.
