There's nothing quite like a bromance on TV. For most shows, the entire plot is centred around it. It acts as an inspiration to us all. Here's ten of the best...

10. FRASIER – Frasier and Niles

While they are actually brothers, the relationship between Frasier and Niles always felt more like a real friendship. They fell out. They argued and bickered constantly, but they had a deep understanding of one another and their problems. Also, that apartment. Holy shit.

9. CHEERS – Cliff and Norm

Cliff and Norm are the quintessential bar-flies. They sit at the back, they make small-talk and ramble on and nobody's entirely sure what they do. Well, that's not true. We know Cliff is a postman. But nobody was ever sure what Norm did. Was he an accountant or something? Answers on the back of a postcard, please.

8. STARSKY & HUTCH – Starsky and Hutch

If you're of a certain age, you'll remember this theme tune by heart. That screaming Gran Torino pulls into view while that dude narrowly misses it, followed by David Soul and Paul Michael Glaser diving over the hood of a car and being awesome. This show made us want to solve crime with our bestest buddies and when shit was starting to go down, you'd just throw the siren on the roof of the car.

7. STAR TREK – Kirk and Spock

What's interesting about Kirk and Spock is that they are, in essence, two opposite ends of the personality spectrum. You could throw Bones in there as well, but it's really about Kirk and Spock. Kirk is all guts, gusto and fortitude. Spock is logical, analytical and calm. When they work together, they get the best of both worlds.

6. CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM – Larry and Jeff

It's fair to say that if you had a mate like Larry David, you'd have probably left his ass a long time ago. That is, of course, unless you're quite similar to him. That's a part that some people overlook about Curb Your Enthusiasm. Jeff and Larry are actually very similar in that they're both super-annoying, they pick up on the weirdest things and they both seem to piss off Susie – Jeff's wife – in suitably epic fashion. Observe.

5. SCRUBS – Turk and JD

Some might argue that this bromance is quite contrived, but the chemistry that Zach Braff and Donald Faison bring to bear on-screen makes it believable. Although the show did begin to diminish in our minds very quickly after it cancelled, the earlier seasons were truly comedy gold.

 4. COMMUNITY – Troy and Abed

Now that (spoiler alert) Donald Glover has left Community to focus on his rap career, this relationship has possibly run its course. No doubt Troy Barnes will return at some later date, but for the moment, we have to go without Troy & Abed In The Morning. Not cool. Not cool, cool, cool.

3. BREAKING BAD – Walt and Jessie

It might be the most twisted bromance on this list, but the fact is that – right up to the end – Walt came through for Jessie. He might have been a psychotic monster who lost touch with human emotions, but Walt needed Jessie. There's tons of really in-depth features about the psychological implications of their relationship, of how Walt lied to keep Jessie on-side and stuff, but we thought we'd just leave you with this moment.

2. SHERLOCK – Sherlock and Watson

Any real bromance needs a conjoining of names in order to be truly effective. Johnlock – a portmanteau of John Watson and Sherlock Holmes – exploded onto our screens way back when Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman arrived with the new take on the story. Of course, Sherlock and Watson have been around for years and have seen different versions – some less successful. We're looking at you, Elementary. You're fooling nobody with Jonny Lee Miller.

1. FRIENDS – Chandler and Joey

You couldn't possibly have a discussion about TV bromances without having these two feature somewhere on the list. Who didn't want to be friends with both of them? Their apartment antics – fireball, Baywatch, finding free porn (in the dark ages before the Internet), the chick and the duck, the foosball table – made us all want to grow up and live in New York with our bestest buddy. It was a sad day when Chandler moved out and married Monica and Joey got his TV series cancelled after two seasons.
