We've seen many a TV series rebooted in the past few years but this one really takes the biscuit: They're bringing back Murder She Wrote and casting a new female lead in for the show that made Angela Lansbury a TV legend. Excuse us while we attempt to take that in...

As per Deadline, NBC wants to bring the show into the 21st Century and has given David Janollari and Alexandra Cunningham (Desperate Housewives) the green light to executive produce the new drama. They've only ordered a pilot thus far, but they certainly seem eager to make a real go of things with this one.

They're not just getting any old actress in to play the female lead either: Oscar winner Octavia Spencer (The Help) will lend her talents to the show, playing a hospital administrator and amateur sleuth who publishes a mystery novel, before getting herself mixed up in a fair few real life investigations.

We're big fans of Octavia here in entertainment towers, but we can't help but feel less than excited about this one...
