Back in 1999, the coming-of-age football dramedy Varsity Blues was one of the biggest flicks of the year, mainly because it starred James Van Der Beek, who then starred in one of the most popular shows of the time, Dawson's Creek.

Now, as seems to be the trend in Hollywood at the moment, it's set to be turned into a TV series by Paramount and CMT.

For those that don't remember it, it followed the story of a Texas quarterback (Van Der Beek) who rebels against a football obsessed town and the abusive coach of his team (Jon Voight). It also starred the late Paul Walker and Amy Smart, so yeah, it was pretty much as nineties as it gets.

An updated TV show version could work well though, and also fill the gaping hole left in our hearts since Friday Night Lights finished.
