We're never one to write things off without giving them a fair shot, but to be honest, this can't be good. It's now been officially announced that AMC's The Walking Dead is getting a spin-off, set in the same universe except in a different part of the world at the same time. Is that a spin-off? It's not a prequel or anything like that. Oh well. So far, so good though, right?

Here's the bad news - the showrunner for this new series will be Dave Erickson. Who's he, you may ask? He was the head writer and producer for Low Winter Sun, a very short-lived series on AMC that starred the guy who played Gale Boetticher from Breaking Bad. To our knowledge, it was never shown on this side of the world. Which is a good thing because it's crap. We saw it. We were spared.

Not only that, Erickson also worked on Cantebury's Law - which was a precursor for Julianna Marguelies in The Good Wife. She played a lawyer, there were office politics. It was basically the same thing. That show was cancelled after one season as well.

In other words, the showrunner's track record is a bit poor to say the least. Can he turn it around for this? We're not sure.

It's early days yet, but the show is expected on our screens at some stage in 2015. Gale Anne Hurd and Robert Kirkman, the current showrunners, are going to be working alongside Erickson. No casting has taken place yet, although they're keen to point out that none of the cast from The Walking Dead will be in this spin-off and that it's set in a different part of the world.
