Great choice, we reckon.

CBS has announced that the casting decision has been made for classic villain Harry Mudd. The eccentric space pirate was first played by the late Roger C. Carmel in season 1 episode 6 of the show, which aired in 1966. The character later appeared elsewhere in the franchise including the Star Trek animated series and novels.

Mudd was a charismatic conman and intergalactic criminal who smuggled, transported stolen goods, and used counterfeit currency.

None other than Rainn Wilson, best-known for playing Dwight Schrute over the nine-season long series of The Office US, will take on the role.

The actor has long expressed his love of the Star Trek series – he tweeted in 2015: “What I always loved about Star Trek [was] the intelligent, thoughtful metaphysical ideas about the human condition” – and his first big-screen role was as an alien fanboy in Galaxy Quest. Clearly he was meant for outer space.
