The teaser trailer for season four of 'The Handmaid's Tale' has just been unveiled.

If you feel the prospects of the world are looking pretty dismal at the moment, at least you can look to 'The Handmaid's Tale' and think, things could be worse.

The dystopian series depicts a totalitarian society that forces fertile women to become "Handmaids", the equivalent of child-bearing slavery.

Against this backdrop the Handmaid June (Elisabeth Moss) rebels, and at the end of the last season, she took a major step in giving a big middle finger to the system.

The act, however, left her injured, and the last time we saw her, she was being carried away to safety by her fellow handmaids.

From the looks of the trailer, June has returned to full health and is as determined as ever to take down the patriarchy.

The teaser also shows we'll see the return of such regulars to 'The Handmaid's Tale' as Serena (Yvonne Strahovski), Fred (Joseph Fiennes), Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd), Nick (Max Minghella), Moira (Samira Wiley), Janine (Madeline Brewer) and Joseph Lawrence (Bradley Whitford).

The official synopsis for this season reads: "The cultural phenomenon picks up where we left off, with June’s fight for freedom against Gilead.

"But the risks she takes bring unexpected and dangerous new challenges, and her desire for justice and revenge threaten to consume her and destroy her most cherished relationships."

'The Handmaid's Tale' season 4 debuts on Hulu on April 28th. An Irish release date has yet to be confirmed.
