If you've been glued to Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan in The Fall on RTE One of a Sunday night, you'll be pleased to hear that the BBC/RTE co-production will be back for a second series.

The gripping thriller gave BBC Two its biggest drama launch in a staggering 8 years when it first hit TV screens earlier this month. So the BBC execs, never one to turn their nose up at a decent drama that brings in the viewers, are only delighted with how well it's gone down, and have already given the green light for another batch of episodes.

For those of you who haven't been tuning in, The Fall follows Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson (Anderson), who is called in from London by police in Belfast to help catch serial killer Paul Spector (Dornan). This lad is far more crafty than anyone's given him credit for though, so her task proves rather difficult.

It's still unclear as to whether or not Dornan and Anderson will return for Season 2, but comments from BBC Drama controller Ben Stephenson seem to indicate that the pair aren't quite done yet: "With more of Allan Cubitt's intricate and thrilling plot revelations yet to unfold through the captivating performances of Gillian and Jamie, a second series is a must. Obviously we can't give too much away as the first series builds to a gripping cliffhanger, but what we can say is it will be surprising and intense as the first."

Well, we certainly won't turn our noses up at that either, especially with such a strong Irish cast featured throughout!
