Bad news for fans of The Good Wife. The show will come to an end after the current season concludes.

There had been speculation for weeks as to the future of the hit show after the series creators, Robert and Michelle King announced they would be leaving at the end of season 7. Juliana Marguiles added fuel to the fire when she announced a few weeks ago that she would be unemployed come May. Despite all of this many expected the show to continue into an eight season considering how big a hit it's been with viewers and critics since it premiered in 2009.

CBS dropped the bombshell that the show would have its series finale this May with a Super Bowl TV spot advertising the final nine episodes.

A spokesperson for CBS stated that: "It’s never easy to say goodbye to one of the crown jewels of your network and studio, much less to a show that is among the best on television. But it also feels very right to end with the seven-year story its creators envisioned, and to celebrate the show’s final run while at the top of its creative game"

Juliana Marguiles released a statement about the show's demise shortly after commenting that: "As an actress and a producer, it has been an absolute honor to be a part of a series that, throughout seven years, never settled on being just good… but always strived to be extraordinary,"

While the final episodes will air on ABC in May, Irish viewers will be able to watch them on RTE shortly after.
