The Dervla Kirwan-led drama/thriller sees us head back to County Clare for more hidden family secrets.
Returning to RTÉ One and the RTÉ Player in two weeks time is 'Smother' season two, the first season of which had viewers gripped at the beginning of 2021.
Dervla Kirwan is set to return as the Ahern family matriarch Val in what looks to be another gripping season set around her mysterious family happenings in Lahinch, County Clare.
Season one proved to be a popular watch with Irish viewers at the beginning of the year, as we all became caught up in trying to work out who it was that pushed Denis Ahern (Stuart Graham) off that cliff edge in the very first episode.
The season finale revealed that it was recovering alcoholic Elaine (Justine Mitchell) who was the culprit, after Denis began pressuring her into giving up custody of her two teenage children.
Back in August, we had our first look at the season return, which revealed that there's a new character on the scene who is about to upset the family once again. 'Coronation Street' star Dean Fagan joins the cast of 'Smother' season two as Denis' estranged son, Finn.
Set to make their return for part two of the family drama will be Dervla Kirwan as Val, Gemma Leah Devereux as Anna, Seána Kerslake as Grace, Niamh Walsh as Jenny, Justine Mitchell as Elain, with James O'Donoghue as Calum and Elijah O'Sullivan as Jacob.
Here's the new trailer for the second series.
The official synopsis is as follows: Still picking up the pieces after the death of Denis and the cover-up that followed, Val Ahern’s world is rocked once again when a stranger turns up on her doorstep. The stranger introduces himself as Finn - Denis’ estranged son, and his existence is an unwelcome surprise for the family.
'Smother' season two begins on RTÉ One and the RTÉ Player on Sunday, January 9 at 9.30 pm.
