If you were lucky enough to be in London city centre this mourning (no, it's not a typo, stay with me here) then you were probably the first to find out when Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock will return to our TV screens.

The very crafty folk at the BBC only went a hired out a hearse to carry a fake coffin through the streets with a floral tribute to the detective spelling out the date of his return to the small screen. Now, about that 'mourning' above? I'll go get my coat.

So, as you can see, Sherlock will make his triumphant return (and reveal how he survived that Reichenbach Fall) on New Year's Day. Episode two will follow on January 5th, with the third being broadcast a week later on January 12th.

We can't wait to see how The Killing's Lars Mikkelsen gets on as the super sleuth's new nemesis, although we do wish we knew if our own Andrew Scott's Moriarty was going to make a surprise comeback too...

Catch Sherlock on BBC One on January 1st 2014.
