All is right in the world once more as it has been revealed by Independent.ie that Sharon Ní Bheoláin will soon be back in her rightful position as host of the 'Nine O'Clock News' on RTÉ.
The Sunday Independent broke the news yesterday that the news anchor had not been hosting the programme recently following a formal complaint she lodged to bosses.
It was in regards to an incident that happened on Wednesday, December 12 - the day that British PM Theresa May faced a motion of no confidence in Westminster. Ní Bheoláin was said to have been told in passing that the 9pm news would be co-presented from London by 'Six One News' co-anchor Caitríona Perry.
Ní Bheoláin felt that this undermined her position as anchor of the show and made her feelings on the matter known to senior management.
A source told The Sunday Independent: "Sharon felt that to ask another presenter... to handle the main breaking news story of the day on the 9pm main bulletin - which is not co-anchored - would completely erode her credibility with viewers.
"Some people thought it surprising that Sharon was being so assertive in defending her patch. Sharon is tough and assertive but in fairness, in all the years she has always been cool about programme decisions, so it must have really annoyed her.
"When she didn't present the 'Nine O'Clock' the following evening or on Friday, everyone was talking about it."
It has now been confirmed that Ní Bheoláin will be back in the presenter's chair tomorrow for the Christmas Day news, with Eileen Whelan having filled in in recent days.
Ní Bheoláin is also said to have reached out to Perry to tell her it wasn't personal and that she only wanted to protect her position.
Whatever has been done to resolve the issue, all appears to be well in Montrose again. And just in time for Christmas too.
