Last year sadly brought us the news of a sad, tragic death that rocked the world. A death that caused us to question our very own mortality, nothing seemed certain anymore in this new world we found ourselves in. A world without Brian from Family Guy.

We were angry, nay, we were livid at a God (Seth MacFarlane) who could deal us such a heavy blow. Well, the man himself has finally spoken out, and told the world just why he saw fit to slay this poor innocent, talking dog we were all so fond of.

Macfarlane told the Television Critics Association yesterday: "It did what it was designed to do - it reminded people this is still a show where anything that can happen despite the fact it’s been on for awhile."

The writer/actor was speaking to a press panel there regarding his upcoming Fox astronomy documentary 'Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey'.

He went to say; "We were all very surprised, in a good way, that people still cared enough about that character to be that angry. We thought it would create a little bit of a stir, but the rage wasn’t something we counted on."

Well the rage is what you got MacFarlane! You can see just how Brian passed below, but fear not - in the world of Family Guy - anything can happen. Thankfully, Brian does indeed come back to life in an episode aired late last year called 'Brian Lives'.

And rest assured, Seth added: "Would I do it again? No. We already did it."

We will try forgive you so this time Seth. This time.

You can see how Brian met his maker below. Warning: Viewers may find this next clip distressing. We certainly did.
