Russell Brand
is set to appear on BBC's Question Time panel alongside London Mayor Boris Johnson. No, the sun has not gone to our heads we did just say Russell Brand will be appearing on Question Time with Boris. Brand is the latest celebrity to appear on the show to voice his opinions on topical issues, following the likes of Hugh Grant, Charlotte Church and Fern Cotton.

Brand quit the BBC five years ago, after the infamous voice messages the comic and Jonathan Ross left on actor Andrew Sachs phone. He will be joined on the show by Energy Secretary Ed Davey, MP Tessa Jowell, and writer Melanie Phillips. Should make for interesting viewing.

In other Russell Brand news, the comedian has revealed he wants to step into Matt Smith's shoes after the actor announced his departure from the hit show Doctor Who.

Brand revealed he was very much up for the chance to play the Doctor. 'I'd love to be the Doctor. I'd be like a Tom Baker one, a long scarf, flouncy, wistful, quoting occasional poems, kicking Cybermen in the nuts. I would just travel through time pinching people's arses. Carry on up the worm hole. Like quantum physics, so that is actually perfect'. he said. Sadly for Brand, Ben Daniels is currently the favourite for the role while Simon Pegg has stepped out of the race.

BBC's Question Time airs on the 20th June.
