A new season of Republic of Telly is on the way and since Jennifer Maguire and Bernard O'Shea have left for pastures new, the show has been recruiting some co-hosts.

Last season there was the addition of comedian Joanne McNally, and now they have a new presenter in tow and he'll be a familiar face to those that watched Bridget and Eamon.

It's only Father Gabriel! Comedian Edwin Sammon undoubtedly played one of the best characters on that show, and now he'll be joining Republic of Telly alongside Kevin McGahern and Joanne McNally.

On joining Republic of Telly Edwin commented;

"I’m delighted to be joining the brilliantly irreverent Republic of Telly team this series and making my debut on the Newsdesk. So many comedians have earned their stripes on the show and now the pressure is on for me to prove I’ve got what it takes! I wonder what my Bridget & Eamon character Father Gabriel would say in the Parish newsletter about my new part - fingers crossed I’ll make the fashion pages!"

While Head of Comedy, Talent Development and Music, Eddie Doyle said: "RTÉ2 is committed to developing new TV talent and Republic of Telly has a proven track record in showcasing up and coming presenters and comedians. I’m delighted that we’ll see more of Edwin’s comic abilities when he joins Kevin and Joanne on the Republic of Telly team. And I’ll look forward to seeing him return Father Gabriel to our screens in the near future."

Republic of Telly returns to RTÉ2 on Monday 21 March at 9.55pm.
