The crime drama centres on Detective Jen Rooney (Lynn Rafferty - played Nadine in 'Love/Hate') who investigates the violent death of a young Nigerian migrant found abandoned close to a Direct Provision Centre, where refugees wait for political asylum.
The cast also includes Aissa Maiga ('Anything for Alice', 'Bianco e Nero'), Brian Gleeson ('Resistance', 'Phantom Thread'), Orla Fitzgerald ('The Young Offenders')
The crime drama has already secured an international distribution deal but here's how it went down on our own shores last night:
I think @TakenDownSeries will open a lot of people's eyes to the cruel reality of direct provision centres in Ireland #takendown

Just home from screening of 1st episode of #TakenDown and seriously impressed by some of the performances. Hoping its prime time Sunday night @rte slot will help develop national conversation and awareness around the conditions for asylum seekers living in direct provision.

I hate the term national conversation but as a country we need to address Direct Provision.
It's abhorrent and it's inhumane and we all just look the other way. #TakenDown— jimxcomet (@jimxcomet) November 4, 2018
A series on RTE about direct provision, finally something to bring light to the treatment these people suffer for years!! Can't cook, live in shit accommodation and receive ridiculous €21.60 a week ! This happens in gormo , finglas hidden away secluded from society #TakenDown

Please don’t say #takendown is shite just because it accurately depicts Ireland as institutionally racist.
Being in denial won’t get us that far lads.
That said it was a decent episode.

Excellent start to #TakenDown. Really slick production, strong performances and plot building nicely. Great to have some decent Sunday night homegrown drama back on our screens.
