There's a bit of sad news coming from LA this morning TV fans: The Professionals star Lewis Collins (above right) has sadly passed away at the age of 67.

The British actor, probably best known for his portrayal of Bodie in the 1970s cult TV series, had been struggling with cancer for 5 years and finally lost his battle with the disease this week. "He died peacefully at his LA home surrounded by his family" his agent revealed. "Privacy is asked for at this very sad time."

His Professionals co-star Martin Shaw told the BBC that he was deeply saddened by the news of Collins' passing. "We spent a very tough four years together in making the Professionals, and shared in the production of what has become an icon of British television," he said. "He will be remembered as part of the childhood of so many people, and mourned by his fans. I send my love and condolences to his family, and the great many who will miss him."

And it didn't take long for the rest of the entertainment world to chime in either, with Doctor Who star Colin Baker, former Grimleys co-star Brian Conley and Gary Kemp all paying tribute to the actor on twitter. "The man who should have been Bond," Kemp tweeted. "RIP Lewis Collins. You were supercool."

Collins is survived by his wife and three children.
