The country was shocked and saddened by the passing of broadcasting legend Bill O'Herlihy earlier this week. It had barely been a year since he had retired from fifty years in television, where he  presented coverage of an unbelievable ten World Cups for RTÉ, including Brazil 2014, and ten Olympics Games.

The Late Late Show will be paying tribute to Bill tonight with interviews with ‘the three amigos’ - John Giles, Eamon Dunphy and Liam Brady, as well as many of Bill’s colleagues and friend.

Before that though, the national broadcaster has decided to fly their flags at half mast today in memory of Bill.

A small but touching mark of respect for a man that won't be forgotten by any of us any time soon.

We'll leave it there so.
