Although How I Met Your Mother may not have reached the same heights as Friends, it still was a well-received sitcom that had one of the most talked-about endings in television since The Sopranos.

Given that it's been a few years now, we can talk about it without fear of spoilers - and how Barney and Robin should have never ended up together at the end. Watching the finale, it felt like it was all too much and way, way too rushed - something that Alyson Hanningan agrees with it.

In an interview with news.com.au, Hannigan agreed with a lot of the complaints surrounding HIMYM's finale. "I didn’t think Barney should have ever gotten married... I liked Barney and Robin. But in my heart, I always wanted her with Ted. I just feel they (Barney and Robin) shouldn’t have gotten married.”

Hannigan went on, explaining that the finale was much more different from the one she initially read. "The table read for the finale was so good, so right, but it was also like 14 hours long. So when I actually saw the final version of the show, I was like ‘they cut out everything!’ It just seemed too quick. Obviously it was a tear-jerker, but with all the stuff that got cut out it was too fast... like ‘OK, now we’re going to find out the mum’s dead, then suddenly, OK - he’s with Robin now’, and you’re just like, ‘wait, what happened?!’”

According to Hannigan, there was a funeral scene that was cut out of the finale, as well as a lot of other stuff which would have helped audiences to process what was going on - but time was a factor. "I was bummed they didn’t just make it a two-hour season-ender, so they would get to show certain parts (that were cut)," said Hannigan.

Nevertheless, Hannigan says she'd do HIMYM again in a heartbeat. "We all appreciated it while we had it - we knew how special it was. I don’t think that always happens."
