Baz Luhrmann's Netflix show The Get Down is finished after just one season. The much-anticipated series debuted on the streaming service last summer, although its second half only arrived in recent months.

Set in 1970s New York, the music-driven drama told the story of how the genre of music we know as hip hop came to be and featured a young Grandmaster Flash and a fictional group of protegees led by Justice Smith (Ezekiel 'Books' Figuero) that were based on the Furious Five. (Read our review here.)

The show, which at 10 million dollars an episode was one of the most expensive TV series' of all time, didn't exactly reach the great heights Netflix had hoped, but it seems the reason for its cancellation is Luhrmann's other movie commitments.

He announced the news and explained the reason behind the decision in a Facebook post:
