With the fourth season of American Horror Story - Freak Show - gearing up to begin filming, it looks as though casting hasn't finished just yet.

Neil Patrick Harris, best known to everyone as Barney Stinson from HIMYM, could potentially be joining the cast of the horror anthology series. Harris - who is also a talented magician - wrote a letter to AHS showrunner Ryan Murphy lobbying for a part.

Murphy then responded via Twitter and, we're guessing here, the two are now in talks. Harris will also be starring in the hotly-anticipated adaptation of Gone Girl at the end of the year and has a number of other projects lined up.

It looks like Harris is doing everything he can to distance himself from HIMYM, considering the severe backlash the finale received and the fact that, well, it definitely lost its mojo in the latter seasons.

American Horror Story: Freak Show is due on Irish screens in late 2014 / early 2015.
