Staying in this weekend? Of course you are. Here's our three picks for movies on the telly this weekend...

Saturday - 22:20

TG4 - Best In Show

Christopher Guest, Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara lead an ensemble cast in this mockumentary about the various participants in a dog show in the US. Very much in the vein of Spinal Tap and The Office, Best In Show is riddled with cringe-humour and outrageously funny moments. Highly recommended.

Sunday - 0:55

Film 4 - Crazy Heart

Netting Jeff Bridges his only Oscar to date, Crazy Heart is a hugely affecting drama about a washed-up country singer who resolves to turn his life around when he meets a divorced music journalist (Maggie Gyllenhaal). As he tries to get his career back on track with the help of a former student (Colin Farrell), he struggles with his problem drinking and his self-sabotaging ways.

TG4 - Tigerland

The role that brought Colin Farrell into the mainstream and rightfully so, Tigerland is an effective Vietnam War drama about a platoon of rookie draftees in training camp. Farrell plays a "barracks lawyer", whose only desire is to get out of the US Army and comes into constant conflict with his superior officers, including Michael Shannon and Cole Hauser. While it might be familiar territory, the performances from Farrell, Shannon, Clifton Collins Jr. and Shea Whigham more than do enough to elevate it.
