That sun won't last forever, so here are some movies on the box for when normal Irish temperatures inevitably resume over the weekend.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Friday - RTE2: 9.40pm
David Fincher's take on the bestselling novel didn't exactly break box-office records when it was first released, but it's gone on to become an underrated entry in his catalogue. Rooney Mara, in a star-making role, plays Lisbeth Salander, a hacker who's employed along with a disgraced journalist (Daniel Craig) to investigate the disappearance of a tycoon's niece. Like most of Fincher's work, it's dark, unsettling and has a fantastic soundtrack by Trent Reznor. Keep an eye out for House of Cards' Robin Wright as Craig's love interest too.

Whiplash
Saturday - RTE2: 9.20pm
Whiplash is one of those movies you can definitely re-watch, and if you’ve never seen it before, you’re in for a big treat. It is the debut feature of director-writer Damien Chazelle, who has since gone on to acclaim and awards aplenty with La La Land. Whiplash follows an ambitious young drummer named Andrew (Miles Teller) who is enrolled at a music conservatory and gets what he thinks is an amazing opportunity when he is invited to join conductor Terence Fletcher’s (J.K. Simmons) band. However, he quickly learns of Fletcher’s high standards and his abrasive, verging on abusive, treatment of pupils. Simmons earned an Oscar for his unforgettable performance as Fletcher.

Jaws
Sunday - RTE2: 11.00pm
Pretty much the movie that made the entire world terrified of sharks. An American town called Amity is terrorised by the presence of a great white shark on their shores, so the police chief, an oceanographer, and a jaded shark hunter head off to kill it. Oddly we don't even see that much of the shark for most of the movie, it's mostly just a fin and that utterly terrifying two-note music no one will ever forget.
