Staying in this weekend? Sure you are. Here's three movies to watch on TV this weekend.

Friday - RTE 2

9.35PM - American Gangster

Denzel Washington plays heroin kingpin Frank Lucas in this grimy, down-and-dirty crime saga from... Ridley Scott? Yes, the director of Blade Runner and Alien tackles '70s crime thrillers in a way that only he can. Russell Crowe plays the hard-as-nail New Yoiker cop who's out to nail Lucas, and there's also fantastic supporting turns from Chiwetel Ejiofor, John Hawkes and Josh Brolin.

Saturday - RTE 2

7.00PM - Catch Me If You Can

Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio (doesn't that just feel good to finally say?) stars in this biographical crime dramedy as Frank Abagnale Jr, who found notoriety as a teenager conning and charming his way across America. Posing as a pilot, doctor and lawyer, Frank was able to fund an extravagant lifestyle while outwitting the FBI at every turn. DiCaprio steals the show in the lead as Frank, while Tom Hanks is great as the weary FBI agent chasing after him. Oh and Christopher Wawwwlken is in it too with some great story about cheese we can't quite recall right now.

Sunday - Channel 4

11.10PM - Trance

Danny Boyle's glossy, high-concept thriller sees James McAvoy play a down-on-his-luck art dealer who strikes up a plot to steal a priceless painting from his job with the help of arch-criminal Vincent Cassel. However, when the heist goes horribly wrong, McAvoy hides the painting and suffers a bout of amnesia, effectively forgetting where he hid it. Enter Rosario Dawson, a brilliant psychologist who's ordered to help retrieve his memory. As well as a cracking soundtrack by Underworld's Rick Smith, there's a fantastic story going on here. Highly recommended.
