He conquered and transformed the world of Irish dancing, starred in several successful dance shows and even dabbled in acting and directing with 'Blackbird'.
Now, Michael Flatley's life story is set to be told in a new drama series.
The series has the working title of 'Dancelord' and is being developed by UK company StoryFirst, who describe it as a "no holds barred biopic".
Variety revealed that it's being written by Micho Rutare, who previously wrote on TV series 'Z Nation' and was involved in the 'Sharknado' films as a 'development executive'.
Casting is set to begin soon, with casting director Jessica Sherman ('Star Wars: The Force Awakens').
The synopsis reads: "For every transcendent moment onstage, Flatley endures grueling hours of pain and the loneliness of the road. Taunted by the media and, at times, doubted by everyone but his fans, Flatley bounces back time and again, dancing from his heart well into middle age and transforming Irish dance forever."
Flatley himself said: "I’m honored and humbled to be able to share my story with the world and confident that StoryFirst will deliver an inspirational and, hopefully, motivational message to people everywhere. If you work hard and follow your dreams, then nothing is impossible."
Meanwhile, one of the exec producers, Rod Gunner, said: "I’ve known Michael for many years and it never ceases to amaze me how he consistently confronts adversity head on, in everything he does, whatever the odds, and never considers potential defeat. The ‘Dancelord’ series dramatically demonstrates that remarkable determination to his legion of fans all over the world, whilst illustrating his unique talent."
Flatley, of course, came to global prominence via Riverdance - after which he left and produced his own show, 'Lord of the Dance', which is currently on its 25th anniversary tour.
In recent months, he has been battling an "aggressive form of cancer" which he underwent surgery for earlier this year.
