Another batch of movie stars are moving to the small screen for this new TV series which will star Mel Gibson, Kurt Russell and Kate Hudson, and will be also be written, directed and executive produced by Gibson.

The series is set to be called The Barbary Coast and will be a drama about the 1849 Gold Rush, based on the book of the same name by Gangs of New York author Herbert Asbury.

For those that aren't up to date on their American history, the Gold Rush of 1849 saw a huge influx of gold-seekers, gamblers, thieves and felons land into the city of San Francisco and generally it was a crazy time for California that lasted for many years after.

The show is set to come from The Mark Gordon Company (Grey's Anatomy) who intends to shop it to premium cable networks and streaming services. Gordon said of the series; "Most people don’t know the scandalous history behind San Francisco, and The Barbary Coast offers a rich portrayal of a period when success was often attained through illicit and brutal means. I’m excited that Kurt and Kate are working together alongside Mel, whose astute direction will bring this devious time in our history to life."

Russell and step-daughter Hudson will play the leads in the show while Gibson is set to have a recurring role, with Russell and Hudson also serving as executive producers alongside Kate's brother, actor Oliver Hudson, and Russell's son, actor Wyatt Russell.

So it's quite the family affair... we can only hope Goldie will show up at some stage.
