Ahead of the 'Friends' reunion, which airs this week, one of the stars of the hit sitcom, Matthew Perry, has received criticism on social media.
Earlier this week, Matthew Perry posted a picture of him wearing a t-shirt reading "Could I BE more vaccinated?"
The post added: "Get your shot and then get your shirt... Only available for a limited time."
The shirt is part of the 'Friends' star's merchandise available on represent.com for $26.99.
The merch on site also includes other t-shirts, hoodies and dog bandanas with such slogans as "Could I Be More Me?" and "Could I Have Had a Longer Day?"
Social media users were not happy about the actor casually linking the upcoming 'Friends' reunion to the coronavirus pandemic.
They regarded the shirt as being in "bad taste."
One user on Instagram wrote: "they are monetizing their sudden rise in popularity because of the reunion. Just capitalism at work here, nothing new."
Another said on Twitter: "Making money from a t-shirt relating to vaccines is in bad taste. Could I BE any more annoyed."
Still another social media user wrote: "Just propaganda machines for life huh? That’s all celebs are anymore."
Another tweeted: "Why would I give a multi millionaire even more money?"
Others defended the actor, with one writing: "I don't get why people are so outraged by this. If you don't want it then don't get it, it's that simple. If people are happy to wear a shirt that says they got the shot, awesome for them. There are bigger issues in the world than a chandler quote t-shirt people."
Another said: "I'm baffled by how upset ppl are. I'm not and we lost ppl to covid in our family. I think it promotes vaccination which saves lives and helps let those around us know we're vaccinated not anti mask when we're ready to go maskless. All good messages."
Matthew Perry joins fellow cast members Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer, plus special guests, in 'Friends: The Reunion' this Thursday, May 27th.
