It's true! The actor has famously said time and time again that the series was a one-off for him and that he wouldn't be returning but seems now that he's had some time to think about it, it might be an option after all.
He told Deadline.com; "That was always how I saw it – one season, eight episodes, a finite beginning, middle and end, goodbye, look forward to watching it."
"If HBO had wanted an option on me for a season two or three, I wouldn't have done it. I wouldn't have walked into something where they could say, 'We've got you for the next three years'."
He went on to say,; "I liked True Detective, the whole series and the experience of making it so much, that I'd be open to doing another one now. At the time, I was looking at six months and not beyond that. I don't know of a feature film I'd sign for where I'm going to say, 'If this works, you've got me whenever you want me for the next three years'."
Looks like we may not have seen the last of Detective Rust Cohle, and sure we could all do with a bit more of that southern drawl and his long rambling stories couldn't we?
Writer Nic Pizzolatto has already spoken about his plans for season two saying there will be three leads in it and while there have been rumours of the likes of Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain taking on the lead, nothing has been confirmed yet.
Don't know about you, but we reckon Nic should give Matthew a call.
