There's great news for the scribes who bring us Love/Hate and Republic of Telly this morning, with the Irish Playwrights and Screenwriters Guild giving them the nod for their hard work in the 2013 ZeBBie Awards.

Named in honour of acclaimed American actor O. Z. Whitehead, the ZeBBies acknowledge the best scripts written by Irish playwrights and screenwriters during the previous year. From film, to theatre, radio to television, there's something for everyone in there.

As we mentioned about, Love/Hate and Republic of Telly are up for Best TV Script this year. Stuart Carolan gets the nod for Love/Hate Episode 6 (yes, that's the Season 3 finale, which we don't want to spoil for anyone who hasn't seen it), while James Cotter, Dermot Whelan, Bernard O’Shea, Shane Mulvey, Jason Butler, Chris Tordoff, Demian Fox, Stephen Shields, and Luc O’Cinnseala share the nomination for the Republic of Telly Christmas Special.

But of course, amid all the hype, we can't forget that there's another horse in the running, if you'll pardon the pun. TG4's brilliant comedy drama Rásaí Na Gaillimhe also gets a nod, with James Phelan's most recent season opener deemed worthy of the ZeBBie nomination.

Now, anyone who loves their telly might assume that Love/Hate has this one in the bag, and you know, they're probably not far off, but we wouldn't put it past Republic of Telly to give the gangland drama a run for its money. Dermot, Bernard and co have been churning out some pretty quality comedy over the past year, and have upped their game big time. I'm not going to lie, there isn't a Monday night that I don't tune in. That said, Tom Vaughan Lawlor, Robert Sheehan, Peter Coonan, Charlie Murphy and co had some quality storylines to play with this year. It's all a matter of taste y'see, and mine tends to fall further on the side of the RTE Two comedy. Check out the vid-yoh below to find out precisely why...

And then there's Rásaí na Gaillimhe, which could prove a real dark horse (I'll stop with the terrible puns now, I promise). I mean, this is the show that puts Raymond from Bachelor's Walk in the same errr, tent as Blackie Connors from Glenroe lads.

Who'll win? Well, you're just going to have to wait until Thursday May 16th to find out, but sure a bit of healthy speculation never hurt anyone, wha? And if you're looking to clap your eyes on the full list of ZeBBie nominees, head over to the official site.
