Bad news if you were hoping to see Rosie O'Donnell in drag as Steve Bannon, folks.

According to a report by Variety, it looks as though SNL has yet to make contact with O'Donnell for the role of Trump henchman / chief strategist Steve Bannon. The report, however, doesn't discount the possibility of her playing the role in the future. It simply states that it's not happening this week.

O'Donnell said that she was more than happy to play Bannon, even changing her Twitter profile to a mock-up of her as Bannon.

As you may have seen last week, Melissa McCarthy performed as Trump press secretary Sean Spicer in one of the best SNL sketches in years. So much so, in fact, that US President Donald Trump was said to be furious with how Spicer was portrayed.

The choice of Rosie O'Donnell as Bannon was going to be particularly sweet, as Trump has crossed swords with Rosie O'Donnell on many occasions. O'Donnell even featured in one of the Presidential debates, wherein he claimed that he "said very tough things to her (Rosie O'Donnell) and I think everybody would agree she deserves it and nobody feels sorry for her."

It's not yet clear if SNL is planning on casting anyone for the role of Steve Bannon, as last week Bannon was portrayed as the Grim Reaper rather than any specific person playing him.

All will be revealed tomorrow morning when SNL is broadcast on US television.
