Earlier in the week brought the news that Dermot O'Leary was set to return to the X Factor this year as host, and now it's emerged that another veteran of the show will be reclaiming his rightful throne, as The Sun reports it's looking likely Louis Walsh will make his return.

The Mayo man has said to have flown over to LA to meet with Simon Cowell, with a source telling The Sun; "Simon didn’t really want Louis to go in the first place."

Adding; "He’s doing all he can to sign him for the next series. Louis is up for it. Simon wants an older person back after admitting last year’s series was too youthful, which might have made more people go to Strictly."

Walsh was replaced last year by Nick Grimshaw but it had previously been announced that the BBC radio DJ would not be returning to this year's show. All of last year's changes to the series didn't prove the ratings winner Cowell had hoped, and it seems the baby was most definitely thrown out with that bath water. Not that we're calling Louis a baby...

No official confirmation from X Factor camp yet but we'll keep you posted. In the meantime, if you fancy your chances on this year's show, Dublin auditions take place at the 3Arena Dublin on April 24th.
