Jumping the shark before you even go to air seems to be all the rage these days so it's nothing new, but we certainly never expected a preposterous project to feature the likes of Victor Hugo's Les Miserables.

As per Deadline, the iconic novel turned musical turned big screen adaptation is now due for a bit of modernisation, and is heading for the small screens in the form of a US legal drama. *raises eyebrow*

Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas is the man tasked with bringing Jean Valjean and co home to the 21st Century so, considering the fantastic job he did on the teen detective series, it might not be a total loss. Still, the blurb doesn't exactly have us dreaming a dream, if you know what we mean...

Rob and writer Graham Norris take ye olde French tale and drop its main players in modern day America. Good old Jean Valjean is a bit of a legendary lawyer in this life, spending all his time defending the innocent while being haunted by his own unjust convictions.

We're not too sure what's happening to his darling Cosette, but word on the street is that Valjean will be having more than enough to deal with when it comes to his romantic life. Oh and, of course, he'll be doing all he can to stay out of one particular US attorney's way. Seems someone has beef and ain't gonna let it go that easily.

Can you hear the people sing? Honestly, not so much. We're half tempted to man the barricades and defend the beloved tale...
